....The
most important place to begin praying for your wife is to
pray for yourself. That may seem odd advice. Yet, it is crucial
in your intercession for your wife. In order to pray with
power for your wife, you must deal with anything that would
hinder your praying for her. Your heart has to be right when
you pray. You jeopardize your own prayers when you don't pray
from a right heart.
.....The
following Scripture prayers will aid you in making sure that
you are right with the Lord and your wife and that your praying
will be powerful and effective. You can use these prayers
or develop your own from them. When you see a blank, place
the name of your wife there and plead the truth of Scripture
for her.
Father,
I pray that You would create a clean heart in me. O God, renew
a right spirit within me. Change me and mold me into the man
and husband that You want me to be (Psalm 51:10).
Father,
search my heart and life. Reveal to me anything in my life,
which is not pleasing to You. Show me any sinful attitudes,
words, feelings, or actions that I have held or practiced,
especially in my relationship to ___________________. Open
my eyes that I may see these things. As You convict me, grant
me the grace and power to repent and change (Psalm 139:23-34).
Father,
create within me a thankful spirit for _____________________.
Cause me to realize in fresh and unique ways that she is my
complement and that she completes me. Empower me to thank
You for her to show her how much I need her and appreciate
her (Genesis 2:18).
Father,
enable me to dwell with ___________________ with understanding.
Help me to daily recognize that she needs my covering, protection,
and love. Grant me the discernment that I need to understand
her, encourage her, and minister to her (1 Peter 3:7).
Father,
empower me to honor my wife. I pray that I would always honor
her in my thoughts, my words, my feelings, and my actions.
Deliver me from disgracing her or dishonoring her in any way
(1 Peter 3:7).
Father,
I plead that You would grant us the unity and the oneness
that You intended for marriage. Enable us to deal with anything
that would prevent us from experiencing this unity and oneness.
Make us of the same mind and heart (Genesis 2:24).
Father,
give me a heart of compassion for ____________________. Work
into my heart the patience that I need to bless, encourage,
listen to, and love her. Deliver me from impatience toward
________________ (Colossians 3:12).
Father,
develop within me a forgiving spirit toward ___________________.
Deliver me from the pride that would cause me to resent and
hold grudges toward ________________ (Colossians 3:13).
Father,
I ask in the name of Jesus that You would empower me to love
________________ as Christ loved the church. Fill me with
Your love so that I can love her in a way that is pleasing
to her and that will encourage, bless, and minister to her
(Ephesians 5:28-29).
Father,
cause me to remember that _________________ is a gift from
You. Help me to treat her as Your gift to me (1 Corinthians
11:9).
Father,
teach me how to pray for ___________________. Grant me the
discernment and power to cover her life with prayer (Colossians
4:2).
