There are only a small number of believers in Afghanistan. Their number in urban and some remote rural areas has multiplied through the witness of expatriates (foreign Christians), Afghan believers, and even Christian Russian soldiers. Plead today that God will strengthen and protect these believers in Afghanistan. Ask Him to build the church in Afghanistan by His grace and power. Pray that a triumphant church will rise out of the ruins of war and terrorism. Claim 1 Peter 2:9 for the church in Afghanistan, "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."

Ask God today to place five area churches on your heart. Plead for Him to build and mature these churches by His grace and power. Pray the following Scripture prayer for them:

"Father, cause ______________________ to behave like a chosen generation. Enable them to be faithful to intercede for their communities. Transform them and use them as Your holy nation, as Your own special people. Empower them to proclaim Your praises, the praises of You who have called them out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Amen."

January 2 Afghanistan - The Lost

Afghanistan is one of the least reached countries in the world. It has always been resistant to the gospel. There are 48,000 mosques but not a single church building. There are 70 unreached people groups in this nation. Pray today that God would remove the resistance to the gospel that has existed in this country. Ask Him to reap a mighty harvest in this land. Plead today that God would open the hearts of the people to the good news of Jesus (Acts 16:14).

Pray today for five people that you know that are resistant to hearing and receiving the good news about Jesus. Plead with God to open their hearts as He did Lydia's.

January 3 Albania

Albania is spiritually hungry. Yet, the big question is who will feed them and what will they be eating. The country's Muslim majority is nominal and searching. They are more open to the claims of Christ than other Islamic populations around the world. Christians must act because foreign Muslims operatives are already hard at work to make Islam dominant in this needy land. Pray today that the people will have the same attitude that Cornelius and his household had toward Peter and the gospel, "Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God" (Acts 10:33).

Plead today that God will bless all those in your area who are searching for answers to ultimate questions. Ask that they will be delivered from counterfeit religions and would hear and believe the good news of Jesus.

January 4 Algeria

Algeria is the second largest country in Africa. Opposition to the gospel is intense in this nation. Over 140 years of tearful sowing by a tenacious succession of missionaries is only now bearing fruit. Algerians have long and bitter memories of "Christian" conquests, colonialism, and atrocities. Plead today that the centuries of prejudice and misunderstanding concerning Christianity will be taken away. Pray that the Algerians will understand the good news about Jesus. Ask God to remove those things that Satan has used to blind their minds to the truth of the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Ask God to place people on your mind and heart that have deep prejudices and misunderstandings concerning the good news about Jesus. Pray the following Scripture prayer for these people:

"Father, the god of this age has blinded the mind of ____________________. He does not want him/her to understand or receive the good news of Jesus. I ask in the name of Jesus that You would remove the prejudices that Satan has used to blind him/her to the truth. Remove the misunderstandings that have kept him/her from coming to Christ. Open his/her understanding so that he/she can turn from his/her sin and trust in Jesus the Savior. Amen."

January 5 American Samoa

Spectacular Mormon growth demonstrates the spiritual poverty of the mainline churches in American Samoa. They have lost large numbers to this erroneous system. Pray today for genuine revival and spiritual power in the churches of American Samoa. Plead Isaiah 64:1 for this nation, "Oh that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence."

Ask God to bless the churches in Your area that are struggling and losing ground. Pray for revival and new life for these churches. Plead with God to send reviving, converting power.
