.....Is
your child a prodigal? By the term "prodigal," I
mean that he or she has turned away from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Your child was raised in a Christian family. He or she made
a profession of faith and was faithful to Christ and His church
for a time. Yet, your child has now changed. He or she has
turned away from the beliefs and practices of the Christian
upbringing in your home. He or she is no longer faithful to
Christ and His church. Your child seems to love the world
and is living in such a way that is not consistent with the
Christian faith. Frustration and sorrow have now replaced
the joy and hope that you had over his or her spiritual life.
Your heart is broken because he or she has little, if any
interest, in the things of God.
.....Your
situation is not hopeless. Through prayer, you can see your
child restored to a right relationship with God. Prayer is
the crucial element in leading your child back to God. God
delivers and restores prodigal through believing prayer. The
following prayer list is offered to help you in praying for
your prodigal. These prayers are based on the Scripture; you
can plead them with confidence and expectation. Plead with
the Holy Spirit to guide you and empower you as you pray for
your beloved prodigal.
Father,
I plead that You would give ____________________ a new heart
and make him/her into a new creature in Christ. O God, if
_________________ has never been born-again, I pray in the
name of Jesus that he/she will experience Your life-transforming
power through the good news of Jesus Christ (Ezekiel 36:26-27;
2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:1-16).
Father,
I ask You to preserve ___________________. Deliver him/her
from his/her rebellion and backsliding. He/She has turned
his/her back on You. Have mercy on him/her and set him/her
from this abominable condition. Create within ______________
a longing to return to You in true faith and repentance (John
6:39-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:29; Philippians 1:6; 1 Peter 1:5;
Jude 24-25).
Father,
I pray that You would make the consequences of sin bitter
and devastating in ________________'s life. Remove all enjoyment
from _________________'s rebellion against You and Your Word.
Cause him/her to see that his/her sin is a hindrance from
being in a right relationship with God (Jeremiah 2:19).
Father,
I plead that You would remove any evil influences from _________________'s
life. I ask You to sever any relationships that he/she has
with those who are hindering him/her from repenting and returning
to God. Cause these relationships to sour and to end. Deliver
him/her from any contact with those who would have an evil
influence in his/her life (1 Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs
1:10-19; Psalm 1:1).
Father,
I ask in the name of Jesus that You would send godly people
into _________________'s life. Grant him/her godly friends
who can reach him/her and minister to his/her spiritual needs.
Place in his/her life Christian friends who can have a powerful
and righteous impact in his/her life. Send believers into
_______________'s life that he/she will respect, listen to,
and love (John 4:37-38; 1 Corinthians 3:5-9).
Father, I ask in the name of Jesus that all of _______________
plans and goals will fail until he/she repents and returns
to You. As long as he/she is pursuing the path of sin and
self, deny any success and pleasure in his/her life. Let him/her
experience temporary failure rather than eternal ruin. Allow
nothing but grief and misery in ________________'s life until
he/she cries out to You in repentance. Father, let him/her
know how wicked and painful that rebellion against You is
(Luke 15:14-17; Hosea 2:5-7).
Father,
I plead in the name of Jesus that _____________________ will
hear Your voice and that he/she will not harden his/her heart.
Cause him/her to see and know Your warnings through people,
pain, and circumstances. Make him/her aware of the fact that
You are calling him/her back to Yourself in varied and powerful
ways. I ask that _______________ will recognize Your warnings
and pleadings and that he/she will return to You in faith
and repentance (Genesis 14:11-12).
Father,
I pray in the name of Jesus that You would bind and remove
any and all demonic influence in __________________'s life.
I ask that You would break the grip of the evil one in ________________'s
life. Lord God, by Your power and grace, destroy any and all
demonic strongholds that are hindering _________________ from
repenting and returning to You (1 Peter 5:8-9; Jude 9).
Father,
I plead that the Holy Spirit's conviction will be deep, sharp,
and abiding in ____________________'s life. I ask that nothing
will lessen his/her experience of the Spirit's conviction.
Let His conviction penetrate his/her hardness of heart and
let it be unceasing (John 16:7).
Father,
I ask You to unleash Your chastisement in _____________________'s
life. You are the loving Father. You discipline those who
belong to You. Let Your discipline be severe and unceasing
in ____________________'s. I ask that Your chastisement will
lead ___________________ to repent and return to You (Hebrews
12:5-8).
Father,
I pray that __________________ will know and understand that
You are ready to receive and forgive him/her. I plead that
he/she will recognize that there is forgiveness and restoration
with You. Convict him/her that You still love him/her and
desire for him/her to surrender to Your will. Show him/her
that You are willing to cleanse and change him/her if he/she
will call on You (Isaiah 1:18, 55:6-7; Micah 7:18-19).
Father,
have mercy on ___________________. Your mercy is fresh and
new every morning. You compassion never fails. Magnify Your
mercy by restoring _________________. Reveal the greatness
of Your compassion by convicting and changing _____________________
(Exodus 33:19, 34:6-7; Lamentations 3:22-23, 31-32).
Father,
manifest Your power in restoring _____________________. I
ask You to release Your almighty power into ___________________'s
life and bring him/her to repentance and restoration. Reveal
the greatness of Your power by drawing him/her back to Yourself
in faith and repentance (Psalm 62:11, 89:8, 115:3, 135:6,
147:5).
Father,
You are the jealous God. You will not tolerate any rivals
in the lives of Your people. Manifest Your jealousy in _______________'s
life; turn him/her back from his/her rebellion and to Yourself.
Show Your jealousy for _______________ by delivering and changing
him/her. Draw _________________ back into an intimate and
personal relationship with Yourself (Exodus 20:5-7, 34:14;
Deuteronomy 4:24, 29:20).
